Tony Scott plans to really shake the nerves and rattle the brains of Top Gun 2 audiences.

The English director has suggested a follow-up to the iconic 1986 film could focus on the new era of aerial warfare. Originally, Scott had to plans to return to Top Gun, but a meeting with a young U.S. Air Force pilot who flew unmanned drones controlled remotely, piqued his interest. “I don’t want to do a remake, I don’t want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie,”  he told The Guardian. Paramount has yet to make an official announcement about the film.

Scott has said the film would chronicle the end of the fighter pilot era. (What! No more chicken?) Instead Scott will embrace the digital revolution, the world of video war games and computer geeks. Scott also says he believes that if we ever went to war it would be these kids that would driving stick. “They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night,’ Scott told reporters.

As NewsFeed reported earlier this month Tom “Maverick” Cruise, might get behind the wings once more, but not in a leading role. Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is set to script the film with original wing man, producer Jerry Bruckheimer also on board.
