It’s official. The teen sensation is legally of age.
It’s been four years since Disney starlet Miley Cyrus first landed on TV as the sweetly innocent Hannah Montana, a career break that launched her into international superstardom as an actress and singer. Three solo albums followed her success on Montana – 2007’s Meet Miley Cyrus, 2008’s Breakout and this year’s Can’t Be Tamed, which features her biggest hit to date, Party In The USA – as well as a starring role in a film written specifically for her, 2010’s The Last Song. The daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus was an undeniable hit.

But despite her docile, Nashville-style roots, the past few years have given way to an edgier, more adult Miley. The reinvention hasn’t gone over seamlessly, as parents have criticized the teen for a shrinking wardrobe and scandalous dance moves. Perhaps her most infamous moments have included a Vanity Fair photo shirt that featured a topless Miley, wrapped in a bed sheet and a performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards which featured her dancing on somewhat provocatively on a pole. Still, she has endured as one of the most marketable teen stars in the business, which means scandal or not, she must know what she’s doing.
