2010’s Most Popular Names: Sophia, Aiden and Isabella Top The List… Again

Five years from now, grade schools across the country are going to be filled with little Aidens.

Babycenter.com has released the top ranking baby names in 2010 for both girls and boys. And topping the lists are Sophia and Aiden. It should be noted that the latter name has topped the list for the past six years. Boring!

In fact, most of names in the top ten have been there for years. TIME’s Claire (number 40 on the girls’ list!) Suddath spent some time earlier this year examining why naming trends exist.

The answer? Well, while there are a lot of theories out there it turns out that no one really knows.

While most of the names on the list are very lovely (particularly, ahem, number 92 on the girls’ list), as the old adage goes, variety is the spice of life. Perhaps, parents-to-be should try and mix it up a little bit more. (via Babycenter.com)
