Designers take heed. Just don’t call it pink.
Turquoise is so last year, according to the color trend experts at Pantone Color Institute. It’s time for a new hue for the new year, and they’ve selected honeysuckle, a pinkish-red tone, as 2011’s official color.
Pantone came up with the peppy pink color by checking out trends in fashion and marketing for the upcoming season. In chatting with designers and manufacturers, Pantone determined an optimistic tone was necessary in this era of uncertainty.

“The color says we need to be hopeful and think of things that satisfy as many senses as we can,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Honeysuckle is replacing turquoise, the 2010 color of the year. Past years’ choices have included “Chili Pepper” red and “Mimosa” yellow. But when the calendar turns to 2011, to ward off those winter blues, just think pink.
