The home of Mickey and Minnie and pals on the West Coast temporarily halted admission on Tuesday as record numbers of visitors stormed the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks.
The Los Angeles Times reports that for the second day in a row, between 75,000 and 100,000 people turned out to celebrate the holiday season at the family-friendly parks. While high turnouts are not uncommon in the week between Christmas and New Year’s, the sheer volume of people descending upon the world famous resorts lead to limited admission and the closure of the ticket gates in Disneyland at 10 am, just 2 hours after the park opened. Visitors were diverted to Disney California Adventure to avoid disappointment, but by 1 pm neither park was able to to admit new visitors.

Disneyland took to Twitter to express their amazement at how popular the parks were. The official Disney account tweeted, “Disneyland Resort extremely popular today. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure access temporarily limited.”Annual Pass Premium holders were still able to get in, as were people who booked in advance, but holders of the regular Annual Passes and visitors who expected to pay at the gate were turned away or had to wait in the ever growing admission line.

The lines inside were just as bad as out with a two-hour wait to get on Space Mountain — but lets face it, being blasted into the stars at break neck speed is totally worth it.
