It seems like a possibility. NewsFeed’s first question is, who asked for this?
The Guardian reports that the adaptation’s director, Baz Luhrmann, was hinting at the possibility about giving F. Scott Fitzgerald’s story the 3D treatment when he spoke at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Though he hasn’t officially verified the news, even the suggestion that Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan could be in 3D has been met with horror by the book’s fans–including NewsFeed.
We’ll admit that we are by no means 3D haters–sometimes it just works to effectively tell the story. But when it comes to portraying the decadence and excess or the love and longing that is Gatsby, is 3D really necessary?

NewsFeed fears that not even Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan (the talent playing the lead characters) would be able to hold our attention amid the likely distraction of three dimensional jewels and mint juleps. (via the Guardian)
