The heartland of America is known for its hearty meat and dairy dishes – and of course, beer. Serve up the best of the Midwest as you cheer on the Packers tonight.

Whether you’re a lifelong Cheesehead or supporting them for one night only, it’s worth exploring the culinary traditions of Wisconsin. They keep no secrets of their famed foods – cheese and beer are dietary staples.

The beef raised in the Midwest is second to none, and the state specialty is the bratwurst, brought over and popularized by the state’s German immigrant population.

Here’s a simple yet delicious-sounding recipe that combines the brat with Wisconsin’s other specialty – cold hard lager. Drink your beer while eating it, too.

  • 6 bratwurst sausages
  • 6 cups lager beer (it’s gotta be Miller)
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 2 red or green bell peppers, sliced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 6 bratwurst buns (but any Superfan needs to put their brat on a Sheboygan bun)
  • Mustard

Drink it down with a classic Miller or a tangy Leinenkugel brew, and you’ll be an honorary Cheesehead in any Wisconsinite’s book!
