Colin Firth’s Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday night was everything we want from a speech: eloquent, charming and sincere. We’re so glad he didn’t Melissa Leo it up.
After a ceremony of missteps and unmemorable moments with very little surprises, NewsFeed was craving a little British charm. And while Firth was the front-runner to win for his wonderful–though historically inaccurate–portrayal of the stuttering King George the VI, he did have some tight competition. Luckily for those of us still actually watching the show, Firth did win, in a victory that prompted him to say, “I have a feeling my career just peaked.”

After deadpanning about stifling his urges to physically rejoice (“I have stirrings in the upper abdominals, which are threatening to form themselves into dance moves”), he then went on to thank his cast and crew, his family, and his wife Livia. No scattered rambling, no drawn out production, just a calm, cool and sincere delivery. No trace of a speech impediment here. It was enough to make us swoon over Mr. Darcy yet again. (via CBS)
