Iran has threatened with a possible boycott of the 2012 London Olympic Games, after objecting that the current logo for the Summer Games has racist overtones and resembles the word “Zion.”

Iran claims that the way the numbers are displayed hints at the biblical term Zion, which refers to the city of Jerusalem. The current 2012 London logo has the numbers displayed in a jagged design. The complaint also urges other Muslim countries to oppose the logo.

The International Olympic Committee, along with London, has rejected the complaint. They’ve stated that “…the London 2012 logo represents the figure 2012, nothing else,” expressing surprise that the complaint has only now been lodged. The design has already been in use since 2007.
