Never one to mince his words, Mike Huckabee attacked Best Actress winner Natalie Portman for glamorizing single parenthood. Clearly he’s just jealous she looks better than him in a tutu.

Huckabee was speaking on conservative commentator Michael Medved’s radio show on Monday when he launched his critique. Medved brought up Portman’s best actress acceptance speech, saying that is was “really a problem” that Portman was so visibly pregnant. He quoted Portman as saying “I want to thank my love and he’s given me the most wonderful gift,” responding that “He didn’t give her the most wonderful gift, which would be a wedding ring.”

Huckabee agreed with Medved, saying that it was “troubling” the way Portman and “other Hollywood starlets” boasted of having children out of wedlock, and that it “distorted the image” of what being a single mom is really like. “Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care,” said Huckabee. “It’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of children out of wedlock.” The potential presidential candidate didn’t think the fact that Portman is engaged to the father of her child was enough.

Portman met Benjamin Millipied on the set of Black Swan, the movie for which she won Best Actress at the Oscars, where he was working as a choreographer and dancer. He also plays her on-screen dance partner in the film. In her acceptance speech, Portman thanked her fiancĂ© “who choreographed the flim, and has now given me my most important role of my life.”

Portman is yet to comment on Huckabee’s attack. With the baby due soon, she probably has more important things to think about.
