Fourteen years after his unsolved murder, the Twitterverse is honoring the memory of East Coast rapper Christopher Wallace (aka Biggie Smalls, aka Notorious B.I.G.).
Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ midnight tweet, “Today is #BIGGIEDAY – send me all your videos, links, photos, exclusive content…ALL things BIGGIE so I can RT to the world!!” spurred Twitter users to post their favorite lyrics and messages like “RIP Big Poppa.” The rapper’s 3 million followers helped make #biggieday today’s top Twitter trend.

Biggie’s first solo album, “Ready to Die,” was released in September 1994 by Combs’ record label Bad Boy Records. Second to his music, the two time Grammy-nominated rapper is remembered for his fight with West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur. Tupac was shot in Las Vegas on Sept. 7, 1996, less than six months before Biggie was shot in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.
Biggie’s second solo album “Life After Death” was released later that month, selling over 10 million copies. MTV named Biggie the third greatest MC of all time after Tupac and Jay-Z.
