Kate Middleton’s coveted wedding dress was one of the best kept international secrets since the assassination of bin Laden, joked Us Weekly editor Justin Ravitz on ABC News. So exactly how did Duchess Catherine prevent the designer and details from being leaked to fashion bloggers and WikiLeaks?
Apparently, all it took was a couple of white lies, secrecy agreements and not telling the dressmakers themselves. The only members of the design team who knew of the gown’s royal connections were Sarah Burton, McQueen’s creative director, along with her most trusted senior designers. As for those lace designers, they were told the project was for a British costume drama. The dress was entirely put together in a secret room of Buckingham Palace. When in doubt, senior members of McQueen were told to straight out to lie and deny if asked whether Kate Middleton was their client.
