You know how it is in showbiz: One day it’s all about Hugh Grant, the next Ashton Kutcher. What must Charlie Sheen be thinking?

As the buzz surrounding the British movie star Hugh Grant dies down regarding his potential role on the CBS comedy (nothing like good old fashioned “reported creative differences”), the latest name in the frame is the King of Twitter, Mr. Demi Moore himself, Ashton Kutcher.

In possibly his most cryptic tweet yet, he asked his gazillions of followers (OK, OK, nearly 6.7 million, but that’s still more than most of us) the following question: “What’s the square root of 6.25?” The answer? Two and a half. The Hollywood Reporter has clearly done its math too, as they reported that a deal was on the cards. That said, Warner Bros. declined comment, as did CBS and Kutcher’s representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment either.

Kutcher could be a savvy pick. He rose to fame on another well-liked sitcom, That 70s Show, has been heavily involved on the prank show Punk’d and has appeared in some pretty well-known movies such as No Strings Attached (he’ll probably want to gloss over the fact that Cameron Crowe ditched him from Elizabethtown though, in retrospect, that was probably a lucky break).

And let’s do some math of our own here: if Kutcher can keep a healthy proportion of Two and a Half Men‘s audience and add a sizable chunk of his Twitter and Facebook followers, then the battle might even be won before it’s begun.

Yet lest we forget, Kutcher’s attempts to utilize social media most definitely did not pay off in 2009 on The Beautiful Life, which he produced for the CW network. The show, which was a venture between CBS and Warner Bros., was axed after just two episodes. He may well be hoping that two and a half, rather than two, proves to be his lucky number. (via AP)
