Here at TIME.com, we were ahead of the curve in recognizing Representative Anthony Weiner’s Twitter prowess.
In March, long before Weinergate broke out, this reporter listed the New York congressman as one of the top 10 politicians to follow on Twitter. I applauded his brashness, his willingness to poke fun at himself (see: Weiner’s profile picture), and, yes, his ability to upload pictures, a function Weiner proved he was pretty fond of in the wake of this recent fiasco.

To be fair, Weiner meant to direct message the photo, but tweeted it out instead. While some may say that proves his social-media savvy was overstated, I maintain that it could have happened to the best of us. And given that Weiner’s number of followers has nearly quadrupled since we first included him on our list, it seems safe to say that a lot of people agree. Or just want to be around for the next mishap.
