Comedian Chris Rock likes to say that he always wanted enough money to be able to buy an elephant. Not because he wants the animal, he’d just like the option. Brangelina must have been listening.
NewsFeed’s favorite couple (well, one of them) has taken the entirely reasonable step of chartering an entire train for a trip from London to Scotland, supposedly as a treat for their Harry Potter-obsessed children.
The Daily Mirror reports that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie took the 400-mile, five-hour journey with their six children (altogether now: Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, six, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne) on a private Virgin Pendolino train, at an estimated cost of £40,000 ($66,000).

According to the paper, “Angelina took all the children to see the latest Harry Potter film recently, and they couldn’t stop talking about the Hogwarts Express afterwards. They’re used to traveling first-class on planes, but the children rarely travel on a train. They absolutely loved it, running up and down the carriages excitedly and peering out of the windows at the passing scenery.”
Well, of course they did, who wouldn’t run amok on one’s own private train? NewsFeed once came back in first class and spent the entire journey reclining the chair and eating the complimentary cookies. Because we could.
But we digress. A spokeswoman for Virgin Trains confirmed that the couple chartered the train, but wouldn’t comment on the cost. “We offer a bespoke service depending on the customer, so the price would depend on the individual,” she said. “People have all sorts of requirements and we couldn’t discuss details of an individual request.”
There was also a business reason (of sorts) for the journey, as Pitt continues to film his new movie World War Z in Britain. MTV reports that the family “will reportedly spend two weeks at a lavish five-star Ayrshire state.” Paramount Pictures is reportedly picking up the bill (which might have meant that other production and cast members were on the train), though it’s unknown if the gang feasted upon on-board menu choices such as outdoor-reared Cumberland sausage, sweet-cure back bacon, grilled tomato and potato rosti with a free-range fried egg. And if you’ve never tried the potato rosti with a free-range fried egg, you simply haven’t lived.
And ever the kings and queens of drama, the stars managed to give their Scottish fans the swerve upon arriving in Glasgow as Brad’s stunt double provided the necessary diversion to allow them to leave through a back door. Celebrities: not just richer and better looking than us, but smarter too.
