In some thirst-inducing work, a bunch of New York City drinkers smashed a Guinness World Record last weekend – visiting more pubs in a day than ever previously cataloged.

The “Thirsty 13” group hit an impressive 250 watering holes in Manhattan, easily downing the previous record of 170 bars — set in Chicago last year — to claim the weighty “Most Pubs Visited in 24 Hours by a Team” title.

According to the rules, one member of the team must drink at least a half pint in each establishment. Wearing “World Record In Progress” t-shirts, this heavy-drinking crew made light work of the task, documenting their booze cruise on camera to verify each drink they bought.

They kicked off their alcohol-fueled odyssey early on Saturday morning at Irish pub O’Hanlon’s near Union Square, taking in everything from sake bars to bistros from there. Final port of call: The One & One bar on First Avenue, in Manhattan’s East Village, where the group ended their record-breaking session well after midnight.

Apparently it was a double celebration for group leader Chris Solarz, 33, an endurance athlete (really?) who marked his three-year wedding anniversary to fellow drinker Bea Reig at the same bar where the pair first met during a speed-dating event. And who said romance is dead?

“Bone tired, and I smell like a hobo,” Solarz tweeted — to @RecordPubCrawl — at the end of the night. The group is now awaiting official recognition from Guinness World Records officials. (Via NY Daily News)
