Mitch Winehouse, father of the late singer Amy Winehouse, recently signed a deal with publisher HarperCollins to write Amy: My Daughter, a memoir about the early years and turbulent stardom of his pop-star offspring.

“I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy, and to help my personal recovery,” said the singer’s father.  He plans to donate all proceeds from the book to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which he established in her honor to support young people struggling with substance abuse.

With her sound inspired by ’70s soul and a persona fit for a more modern audience, Winehouse’s book aims to bring “the many layers of her life together — the personal, the private and the public,” according to a HarperCollins statement.  Winehouse will shed additional light on his daughter’s career, chronicling her childhood through her commercial success and tragic death at age 27.

Only three months after his daughter’s passing, Winehouse gave emotional interviews with Piers Morgan and Anderson Cooper, and the book will follow a similarly brisk path with a release set for Summer 2012.  Financial terms for the book deal have not been disclosed.

“I believe that through Amy’s music, her foundation, and this book, her name will live forever,” Winehouse said.
