Must-Steal Cinema: The Internet’s Most Pirated Movies

The website TorrentFreak has calculated the most illegally downloaded movies and, based on the number of downloads, many internet users out there have been up to no good. For shame, web surfers, for shame!

The site writes that they’ve been counting downloads for nearly half a decade and, inspired by Netflix’s most rented list, have compiled their own data. And what a load of data: just counting the 10 most popular movies, the number of downloads still surpasses the 100 million mark. So while all you non-pirated-movie-watchers are perusing Facebook or starting Twitter fights, there are countless others watching bumpy, buffering versions of last summer’s blockbuster.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, the list is predominantly action-y type boy movies. (Not to stereotype or anything, but we’re not seeing any rom-coms or dance movies included in this list. Just sayin’.)

The movies that are most desirable to download are:

1. Avatar (21 million downloads)
2. The Dark Knight (19 million)
3. Transformers (19 million)
4. Inception (18 million)
5. The Hangover (17 million)
6. Star Trek (16 million)
7. Kick-Ass (15 million)
8. The Departed (14 million)
9. The Incredible Hulk (14 million)
10. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (14 million)
