The Kardashian sisters: A big hit on E!, less so in the White House.

America can breathe a sigh of relief to know that the President (unlike the rest of the mainstream media) is uninterested in the lives and loves of the Kardashian clan.

First Lady Michelle Obama spoke this week at a roundtable interview with ivillage.com about how she strives to raise her daughters Sasha, 10, and Malia, 13, with a sense of normalcy in an extraordinary environment.  During the week, the girls are not allowed to watch TV or go online unless it’s for a school assignment; on the weekends, some television is okay, although the First Lady and her husband have differing views on what exactly should be permitted.

“Barack really thinks some of the Kardashians – when they watch that stuff – he doesn’t like that as much,” she admitted, “but I sort of feel like if we’re talking about it, and I’m more concerned with how they take it in – what did you learn when you watched that.  And if they’re learning the right lessons, like ‘that was crazy,’ then I’m like, okay.”

It’s not a stretch to imagine that many of Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney’s antics could be categorized as “crazy.”  From Kim’s x-ray of her posterior and her lavish multimillion dollar wedding, to giving each other bikini waxes, and Mom Kris’s problems with incontinence, the Kardashians are a cautionary tale against oversharing.  Many moms, however, would agree that Michelle Obama is wise not to keep Sasha and Malia in a protective bubble, unaware of pop culture, but rather to sit down with her girls and discuss what they are seeing together.

The First Lady went on to describe her daughters: “They’re terrific girls, they’re poised and they’re kind and they’re curious.  And like any mother, I am just hoping that I don’t mess them up.”  From what NewsFeed can see, that doesn’t appear to be a possibility.
