Better known as convicted murderer Scott Peterson’s former girlfriend, Frey enlisted Gloria Allred’s services during the heyday of the Peterson case in the mid-2000’s. Frey was a massage therapist when she began dating Peterson, who did not initially tell her he was married. Upon suspicion that he was not being honest, Frey allowed police to tape their phone conversations. After Laci Peterson’s body was recovered on a Northern California shoreline, the taped conversations became key evidence. Frey hired Allred to represent her interests as the trial kicked into gear in early 2004. Although Allred maintained that her client had no opinion as to whether Peterson was guilty, she was openly sympathetic to the prosecution and appeared frequently on television news programs. During the trial’s proceedings, Allred played a key role in keeping many facts about her Frey’s past from the public eye. The prosecution presented Peterson’s affair with Frey as a motive for the murder, evidence that led to his conviction and death sentence.
