Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow reacts after kicker Matt Prater kicked a 51-yard field goal to win the game in overtime over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Denver
Soon after Tim’s risky and now-famous birth (he was nearly aborted due to medical complications, and doctors called his safe birth “miraculous”), his sister Katie, who was just 8 years old at the time, quickly adopted the role of his second mother and insisted on carrying him everywhere she went. “At the time, I was growing and gaining weight quickly, which was probably a result of all those prayers on my behalf,” Tebow writes in his memoir Through My Eyes. But the prayers for his healthy growth worked almost too well. “Poor Katie. She ended up having to have surgery for a double hernia before we returned to the States, which everyone, to this day, blames me for.”
