Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G., was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1972, and began rapping about his urban surroundings as a teenager. The remix of Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” wasn’t the first recording of the future hip-hop legend, but it was an entry into the pop charts that would foreshadow his future successes. “Real Love” peaked at #7 on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart and began a string of successful remix appearances, with Blige and others.
