Watch: Jean Paul Gaultier Creates Bizarre Ads for Diet Coke

Fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier has jumped into the world of viral videos with a series of hauntingly strange ads for none other than Diet Coke. The all-American soda brand picked Gaultier as its celebrity creative director, which alone was buzzworthy. But in an advertising age where Lady Gaga is creative director at Polaroid and Elton John shills for Pepsi, the more eyebrow-raising and incongruous the better.

The first products of the marriage of these two strange bedfellows is out and they are, shall we say, very memorable videos. In the three-part series, Gaultier has branded himself as the “Serial Designer” who is a bit of a puppet master, who interacts with marionettes and, occasionally, undresses them. They are unabashedly weird, but, perhaps, in a marketplace crowded with products and stale marketing tactics, that is the best way to get people talking about your product.
