When the old tune says, “Take me out to the ball game,” the song’s author wisely asked for some peanuts and cracker jack, not a $26 gourmet hot dog. But if you’re catching a game during opening day at the Texas Rangers’ stadium, the dog is now an option. This isn’t just the inevitable end of ballpark price inflation, this is a Texas-sized hot dog with a price tag only someone out of Dallas — or a devoted foodie — could afford.

While $26 is a lot of money to spend at a concession stand, you do get a lot of hot dog for your buck. The newfangled ballpark frank measures two feet long and manages to fit one pound of meat into its oversized bun. The giant wiener comes topped with chili, sautéed onions and shredded cheese. The hot dog is no Guinness Book of World Records feat, instead it’s the latest addition to the menu at the Texas Rangers Ballpark. They do say everything is bigger in Texas and this just proves it.

The Rangers baseball team is pretty excited to add the so-called “Champion Dog” to the menu. Team president Nolan Ryan told ESPN Radio in Dallas

“It has to be a tremendous wiener. And then we’re getting some kind of exotic bread flown in from France. And I don’t know what kind of condiments you put on that. But I do want to look at it. That’s a wild dog.”

The only question now is whether the fans can afford to fork over $26 for the frank. However, when you realize the wiener could feed a family of four, it’s almost a bargain.
