The wedding of Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills may have been lavish, but the divorce was even more expensive. In 2002, McCartney spent $3.2 million on his wedding, held at a 17th-century church in Monaghan, Ireland. On the 300-strong guest list were a host of celebrities including Elton John, Eric Clapton and Paul’s old bandmate Ringo Starr. The couple, who faced a 25-year age gap, had been dating for three years before eventually tying the knot. Nearly six years later, however, it all fell apart. The two went through a bitter and public divorce, with Mills eventually winning $48.6 million of the $250 million settlement she sought. But apparently the whole experience didn’t make McCartney bitter about relationships—last year he married New York millionaire Nancy Shevell in London in front of a much more manageable crowd of 30 people.
