Martin Archer, a physicist in Imperial College London, explained the Higgs boson on CNN by comparing it to crazed Justin Bieber fans: A normal person can move through the fans unimpeded, but as Justin moves through the girls with Bieber fever, they flock to him, slowing him down and creating a sense of mass or inertia. “Today, we think we have found these teenage girls or the Higgs boson particle.” What’s best about the video is that CNN provided Archer with their famous touch-screen technology to illustrate Bieber’s head moving through particles. If only high school physics had been like this, we would have become scientists.
