Host Jeremy Renner said it himself in his opening monologue: he’s an action guy; he’s not really a comedy guy. So this digital short, which featured Renner alongside Bobby Moynihan and Taran Killam, played to his strengths and ultimately allowed him to parlay his action movie chops into humor. The men engage in a three-way standoff, which involves a hard drive and what’s likely a fat stack of cash. Nobody will give in, though, so they continue, guns poised, through Renner’s daughter’s dance class, a Thanksgiving dinner, an afternoon of ice skating and even a run-in with Adam Levine (whose band, Maroon 5, was this week’s musical guest.) As emotional bonds begin to develop throughout the never-ending standoff, the sketch becomes more and more ridiculous — but in a good way. Sure, it started to drag on, but wasn’t that the point?
