With its roots in ancient Greek, the name is more than just an homage to Greece-born Prince Philip, the child’s future great-grandfather. Saint George is also the patron saint of England, and the nation has had six kings named George since the first assumed the throne in 1714. Some have dubious connotations — George III, who reigned during the American Revolution, earned the unsavory title of “The King Who Lost America.” But others, like George VI, are likely closer to William and Kate’s hearts. That king, immortalized by Colin Firth in last year’s Oscar-winning The King’s Speech, is the Queen’s beloved late father. (George is also one of Prince Charles’ several middle names, to boot.)
