Queen Victoria, who ruled from 1819-1901.
The name seems appropriate for the sole reason that royal family enthusiasts view Kate Middleton’s pregnancy as a victory for Great Britain, nay, for the world. But should Kate give birth to a girl, there is more than just an etymological reason to name her Victoria. The most famous bearer of the name is, of course, Queen Victoria — Prince William’s great-great-great grandmother. The “grandmother of Europe” was also the longest-reigning British monarch, a fine distinction for a child who could be the first to take the throne under last year’s gender-progressive succession laws.
