Joe Biden, left, is sworn in as Vice President as his wife Jill holds up a bible during the inauguration ceremony for him and President Barack Obama at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Jan. 20, 2009.
The always-affable, ever-avuncular Joe Biden will be sworn into his second term as VP using a bible that’s been in his family since the 1890s. According to the inaugural committee, the book is five inches thick and adorned with a Celtic cross on the cover. But it’s not a surprising choice — he used it every time he was sworn in as a U.S. senator and again when he was first sworn in as veep in 2009. Biden’s son, Beau, also used the bible when he was sworn in as Delaware’s attorney general.
