This was the second visit Adam Levine paid to SNL this season — but the first was as a musical guest with his band, Maroon 5. And of course, Levine’s no stranger to NBC, as he’s spent the past two years as a judge on the network’s hit show The Voice. So SNL took the opportunity to turn Levine’s monologue into a sendup of the wildly popular singing competition show. Three coaches (played by Cameron Diaz, Jerry Seinfeld and SNL alum Andy Samberg) vied to become Levine’s comedy mentor from their perches on those big red spinning chairs. Flanked by funnymen Samberg and Seinfeld, Diaz was probably the most hilarious of the trio with her spot-on impersonation of judge Christina Aguilera. Next came Jerry Seinfeld, who explained to Levine how to best “use your Jewishness” as he tried to coax Levine to join his team.
The monologue culminated with Seinfeld and Diaz arguing over whether or not Levine should take his shirt off as a strategic hosting move. Spoiler alert: he took it off.
