Andy Samberg made a return to the show this week — and he brought with him the whole Lonely Island crew. Samberg and his comedy cohorts Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer have produced some of SNL‘s most popular digital shorts. Though this week’s new edition likely won’t become an instant classic or as much of a viral sensation as past videos, it was still pretty solid. The skit, which featured host Adam Levine and musical guest Kendrick Lamar, took the acronym YOLO (which stands for “You only live once” and was popularized by Drake) and gave it a whole new meaning: you only live once, so don’t act like an idiot and ruin it. A cautionary tale, the song warns us of life’s many dangers and urges us to think carefully about our actions. Pieces of advice include “Always wear a chastity belt and triple lock it,” and “Never go in saunas ‘cuz they’re crawlin’ with piranhas.”
As the short comes to a close, we learn that the new meaning of YOLO is “You oughta look out.” What they should have warned us about, though, is how much this catchy song would get seriously stuck in our heads.
