Police say Wilfred Levine was loitering inside a Dunkin’ Donuts located on East Main Street in New Britain, Conn., on Wednesday afternoon, so employees asked him to leave and ultimately wound up escorting him out, NBC Connecticut reports. But Levine returned a short while later wielding a full-size ax and looking for the employees who had turned him away. He reportedly leapt over the counter, then proceeded to smash up the inside of the store before eventually turning the ax on the shop’s large plate-glass windows.
When the first officer arrived on scene, the police allege Levine threatened him with the ax, prompting the officer to draw his weapon. Levine still refused to surrender and had to be Tasered before being taken into custody.
No one was hurt, fortunately, but the charges Levine faces include criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, two counts of criminal attempt to assault police, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree criminal trespass, possession of a dangerous weapon, interfering with police, second-degree breach of peace and first-degree reckless endangerment. Bail has been set at $750,000.
