Talk about many happy returns. Actor Robert Downey Jr., who turned 48 on April 4, had a belated cause for celebration when attending the premiere of his movie Iron Man 3 in Beijing last weekend — and making history with one of the biggest birthday cards ever.

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, the card features the signatures of some 5,339 fans, which has set a new mark for the most contributions to a single greeting card. A delighted Downey Jr. said, “I collect modern arts and I consider this the most recent addition to my collection. Thank you China for this amazing display of the culture and thank you for making me feel so welcome. This is unforgettable.”

In case Downey Jr. is interested, the previous record belonged to the British firm Churchill Insurance, which received a card with 4,347 signatures in October 2012 (and we don’t think they were all insurance claims).

Iron Man 3, which is released in the U.S. on May 3, finds Downey Jr. reprising his role as the industrialist Tony Stark, who this time must face off against a terrorist called the Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley. It’s unknown whether any birthdays get celebrated in the film.
