On February 26, 1993, a bomb exploded in the garage of Two World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, killing six people, injuring 1,000 and creating a crater “200 ft. by 100 ft. wide and five stories deep.” The CIA told TIME for our coverage of the attack that the iconic skyscrapers had been near the top of the agency’s list of most vulnerable U.S. terrorism targets since the early 1970s, due to the massive number of people who work there.
