Grumpy Cat went to prom once, and it was awful. Or at least, we think so, because the frowning feline’s face is plastered all over a billboard promoting “alcohol-free” prom in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania (south of Pittsburgh).
Beyond the Pittsburgh area, it seems like Grumpy Cat has been everywhere. Her YouTube channel has been viewed more than 20 million times in the last eight months. Last week, she landed a Hollywood movie deal, and two days later, she posed for photos at Book Expo America in New York City, where she was promoting Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book, a guide to “the fine art of grumpiness”, due out September 2013. Not to mention she sat for a TIME photoshoot in March – and almost hated it.
The mixed-breed cat – whose real name is Tardar Sauce because of her cream-colored fur – has become an internet sensation ever since Bryan Bundesen, the brother of her owner Tabatha Bundesen, uploaded a photo to Reddit in Sep. 2012. Her distinctive frown is due to a form of feline dwarfism.
