Better known by their pen names, Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren, Eppie Lederer and her twin sister, Pauline Phillips, gave advice to millions of Americans for nearly fifty years. Lederer took over the “Ask Ann Landers” column in 1955 and a few months later her younger (by 17 minutes) sister Eppie began a rival column, “Dear Abby.” Lederer died in 2002, and Phillips passed away earlier this year, but her daughter, Jeanne Phillips, continues the “Dear Abby” column under the Abigail Van Buren byline.
