You would think people who go to themed hotels are the types who want to escape email and texting and feel like they’ve been transported to a new world – like sleeping underwater in the Florida Keys, curling up in an igloo in Austria, or sitting for a chocolate portrait in a chocolate bedroom. But if you’re a Tweetaholic whose idea of paradise is a place where no one will judge you, then you may want to check into a new Twitter-themed hotel.
Sol Wave House (@SolWaveHouse) – which opened a year ago on the Magaluf Beach of Majorca, one of Spain’s Mediterranean Islands – has launched a virtual community called #SocialWave that guests can use to share pictures and flirt, the hotel’s social media director Marco Fantón tells TIME. He sees the community as a fun and interactive extension of what guests are already doing on their vacations — showing off their trip using social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
At this “party hotel,” guests can communicate and tweet to each other by logging in via Twitter to a specially designed web application that’s only available via the hotel’s WiFi. Inside the network, guests can share pictures, send private messages, browse users’ Twitter avatars to see who’s online and where they are in the hotel, and even send cuties virtual “kisses” (similar to the “poke” feature on Facebook).
Most of the tweeting happens poolside, where singles strut their stuff “flowboarding” on one of the pools’ artificial waves – a European hybrid of surfing and snowboarding. “Each Bali bed has a number, so if there’s anyone sitting on the Bali bed you’re interested in, and want to play, you use the hashtag for the Bali bed, like #BaliBed1, #BaliBed6,” Fantón explains. Eventually, guests will be able to tweet food and drink orders by the pool, so they can send “a bottle of Moët & Chandon” to someone “who looks nice,” he adds.
If guests hit it off, they can meet up (or “tweetup,” if you will) at Sol Wave House’s #TwitterPoolParty on Fridays, or perhaps have a more private party in one of the hotel’s #TwitterPartySuites. These special rooms for up to four people include bottles of champagne as well as balloons and a tray of candies that are the same color blue as the Twitter bird logo. There’s even a hashtag spelled out with blue licorice pieces. A mirror with a mustache sticker in the middle provides a “tweetable” moment that gives guests something to tweet. If they need anything else, concierges will field guests’ Twitter requests, such as #FillMyFridge if a minibar refill is required.

Coming soon, the hotel hopes guests will be able to make song requests to the in-house DJ via Twitter and meal requests to the hotel’s chefs. It’s even considering hosting a contest for the guest who receives the most “kisses.”
