NASA clocked this meteor speeding at around 56,000 miles an hour when it broke apart over southern Tennessee early Wednesday morning. Not to worry, the space rock only reached at an altitude of 33 miles before it vaporized. But a second piece managed to reach a bit further at 21 miles above Ocoee where it slowed to 19,400 miles-per-hour before flaming out.
Correction: The post originally referred to the rock flying over Tennessee as an asteroid. It was in fact a meteorite. The headline and story have been changed to correctly identify the flying object.
