Northwestern Wildcats’ New Patriotic Uniforms Are Great if You Pretend They Don’t Look Spattered With Blood

Northwestern’s football team will briefly ditch its signature purple for its upcoming game against Michigan, instead donning some rather showy, rather patriotic new duds. Designed by Under Armour, the special uniforms will raise awareness and money for the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization that supports injured veterans. But they also look kind of blood-spattered.

Instead of displaying players’ names, the new jerseys — which the Wildcats will wear on Nov. 16 — will feature one of the following words: duty, honor, courage, commitment, integrity, country or service, the University announced Monday. After the game, all the jerseys will be auctioned off on NUsports.com, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The team shared some photos of the special uniforms on Twitter:

Pretty cool idea, but when you look closer at the uniforms you’ll notice that they appear spattered with blood. A classy idea, but perhaps not the classiest execution?
