Tourists descend on Moscow’s Red Square to see the historic splendor of St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin Tower, but now an outsider has taken up residency and Russian lawmakers are not too happy.
Louis Vuitton opened a massive suitcase-shaped museum to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Italian designer’s flagship location at the Red Square’s GUM department store, the Wall Street Journal reports. The 30-foot by 100-foot L’Ame du Voyage (The Soul of Travel) exhibition houses a collection of 25 historical Louis Vuitton items and lasts just six weeks beginning Dec. 2.

But the stylish trunk, which workers began erecting two weeks ago, is considered an eyesore by some. Some lawmakers from the United Russia party say the suitcase is unreasonably large.

“This is a sacred place for the Russian state,” said Sergei Obukhov, a member of the Communist Party Central Committee. “There are some symbols that cannot be trivialized or denigrated.”
