The 87th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City is lifting balloons and spirits on Thursday. Though parade directors had worried that high winds would prevent them from inflating the 16 giant balloons for the parade, calmer-than-expected weather and tight grips allowed the show to go on in 26 mph winds. Crowds gathered in 30-degree weather to watch the floats go by.
