Walmart, which is perhaps one of the most potent symbols of corporate America, has pulled the most capitalistic move of all: monetizing anti-wealth liberal sentiments by selling posters depicting the 2011 Occupy Wall Street protests. Synergy!
DNA Info dug up the posters on Walmart.com, which are retailing for $52.25 and display a man in a mask holding an American flag in Zucotti Park. They’re being sold by a company called The Poster Corps. through the Walmart website.
Occupy Wall Street was of course no friend to the shopping behemoth. Occupy members have protested labor conditions at the company. Walmart also came under fire recently for holding a food drive for its own employees, sparking debate over the possibility of a minimum wage hike.
Walmart did not immediately respond to a request for comment. We will update when we hear back.
Perhaps the sole comment on one of the posters says it best: “Rated excellent for the incredible irony.”
Update 1:37pm:
Walmart has provided us with the following statement:
“We are a retailer and we provide a broad assortment of products and we have a diverse customer base.”
