When required to wear a stretchy, thin white dress on camera, one might imagine an actress sipping filtered spring water and looking at pictures of carbs in the days leading up to the shoot. But not Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar award winning actress and America’s obnoxiously hot friend.
No, when Jennifer Lawrence wants to eat Doritos, she will eat Doritos, even if she is wearing a skin-tight dress that does not belong to her that was specifically designed to let the American Hustle audience “see every lump and bump,” according to costume designer Michael Wilkinson.
Wilkinson described the travails of a costume director outfitting the snack-lovin’ actress at an awards-season discussion at the Diane von Furstenberg exhibit in Los Angeles last night. The American Hustle costume team made four dresses for the pivotal scene where Lawrence’s character confronts her husband’s mistress, played by Amy Adams. They made the duplicates because Lawrence’s character was originally supposed to douse herself in champagne during the scene.
Even though the final cut shows no such bubbly bath, the extra dresses came in handy: “Jennifer Lawrence is a very . . . let’s say . . . raw and intuitive young lady, and she’s not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume,” Wilkinson told the crowd.
Imagine what else J. Law eats on set if she’s fine with chomping through a bag of Cool Ranch. Extra-saucy buffalo wings? Beef chalupas? Chili dogs? A sloppy joe sandwich with powdered donuts instead of bread? The possibilities are endless.
