Solicitor General Elena Kagan, who was named President Obama’s latest nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court is already being scrutinized by Congressional Republicans, particularly on how she might react to administration policy decisions. Early criticism included wariness on the part of conservatives that she has never been a judge, and that she reportedly does not have a particularly lengthy record of legal briefs or court opinions
Sen. Jeff Sessions, a Republican from Alabama who voted against Kagan when she was nominated for Solicitor General told CBS’ “The Early Show” Congress and the GOP would be watching her closely.
“We need to know that she’s got the personal discipline that good judges and good lawyers have so that day after day, week after week, it won’t be her politics or her ideology but the law and her fidelity to it, that will decide how she handles her cases,” Sessions said.
