Father and Son Build Fenway Park Replica in Oregon

We’re all too aware that the Boston Red Sox haven’t exactly made a stellar start this season, but this might be taking things too far.

Jim Maciariello and his son, Ben, have impressively put together a 1/3-scale Fenway Park replica on their farm in Drain, Oregon. Jim’s father grew up in Boston, which explains the family’s Red Sox fandom. Ben is actually the Oregon head of the Red Sox Nation fan club..

Originally, “it was just going to be an outfield fence for a Wiffle ball game at a Fourth of July picnic,” Jim told the Register-Guard. But eventually, Ben dared to dream even bigger, asking his dad, “why not build a scaled-down Fenway?”

And so, quite possibly inspired by the Field of Dreams mantra, “if you build it, they will come,” the Maciariellos proceeded to construct the likes of Fenway’s famous scoreboard, the Green Monster, the triangle in center field, and Pesky Pole. They called it Fenway West, and friends and high-school teams even get to play there occasionally.

“We wanted it to look authentic,” said Jim, in quite possibly the understatement of the century.
