Other than listening to a song looped 147 times, there is probably no good way to scrub your brain of a stubborn earworm–no matter how much you end up trying. This video of two guys feigning disinterest in Gotye’s meme-anthem “Somebody That I Used to Know” shows just how futile human resistance is to a near-perfectly constructed hook. Because everyone’s been there.
Pointed out by Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman, the parody features two guys in a Honda, driving somewhere, and trying to talk their way out of flipping the dial/hitting “Next” on that one Gotye song. Until the chorus starts. And then, yes, the belting-out of Gotye lyrics begins. The clip goes on for about a minute too long, but maybe that isn’t such a bad thing. Watching someone sort of like you belting out a cringe-worthy rendition of a hideously popular song might help dislodge the earworm. Or get the original stuck in your head again.
