A British regional council is bringing an unprecedented creepiness to the idea of “skimping on a heating bill.”

The Redditch council in Worcestershire would like to heat a new swimming pool and recreation facility with heat generated by their next door neighbor’s business, a funeral home.

First, let’s consider the positives. They’ll be simultaneously saving money and combating global warming, a double win. The council claims it can save £14,500 a year through the proposed plan.

Others are less convinced by these benefits. Funeral director Simon Thomas said, “I don’t know how comfortable people would feel about the swimming pool being heated due to the death of a loved one, I think it’s a bit strange and eerie.”

If the proposal’s approved, NewsFeed predicts real estate near crematoriums — with moochable heat — is about to become very popular. (via Guardian)
