Want to change your “single” Facebook status to “in a relationship”? A new company can help you!
Cloud Girlfriend is a start-up meant to fill that relationship-sized hole in your social networking life. In other words, the company will create a fake girlfriend that will interact with you online so that others think you are taken. (Yeah, we don’t really get it either.)

The site (which has yet to launch) has a homepage with step-by-step instructions:
“Step 1: Define your perfect girlfriend. Step 2: We bring her into existence. Step 3: Connect and interact with her publicly on your favorite social network Step 4: Enjoy a public long distance relationship with your perfect girl.”
Riiiight. As a few other sites have reported, it will be difficult for such a service to operate according to Facebook’s Terms of Service–the site explicitly forbids accounts not run by real people.
While the site claims that “[d]ue to high demand we are only able to accommodate a limited number of users to the site,” we can’t really figure out where this high demand is coming from. The lazy? The bored? Dorky 12-year-old boys (or girls)? Surely if you wanted the illusion of girlfriend badly enough, you could create your own fake account, so why use a middle man?
Or (radical idea alert!) you could try and snag yourself a real girlfriend and put the effort into, say, online dating. (via AOL News)
