A 7-year-old boy is under investigation after a school official found a loaded gun in his backpack Thursday morning.

Wave Preparatory Elementary School, in Far Rockaway, Queens, was placed on lockdown, and school safety officials confiscated the .22 caliber handgun. The New York Post reports that the boy’s parents were notified and he was seen leaving the school with a female relative, and “smiled cheerfully as he went into the police van with her.”

This news comes in the thick of a national gun crisis. On Wednesday, President Obama announced a plan to curb gun violence in America, which would require background checks for all gun sales and ban both military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. President Obama’s plan is a response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six adults were gunned down in December.

Oh for crying out loud!! What has happened to this society as a whole! And why was this kid and his supposed female relative he was with in the cop car "smiling" as the article points out? There's more to this story than what the media is saying, I guarantee you! Why is all of this crap with all the shootings happening all at once? To me it doesn't make sense why all of a sudden all of this violence is occurring? I hope to God that someone finds an answer somewhere with all of this confusion that happening whether it be Syria, or Egypt, or even here in the States. Something's got to give somewhere, and I fear that the worst is to come! The worst is NOT over yet by a long shot, and not I'm not a nut job either, just thinking of what the possibilities could be if we more of these shooting is all I'm saying...

@Rhurazz12 It's not happening all at once. The media goes in waves of publicity. There are multiple gun murders by hoodlums every day, using unregistered guns. The media doesn't even bother to tell you about it.

Clearly this article is fiction:
1) Guns are not allowed in schools by law. So there was no gun in the school.
2) To have a gun you must have a permit. The 7 year old did not have a permit. Therefore there is no way that this 7 year old could have had the gun.

I wish the New York press would quit making up stories like this. Perhaps if Governor Cuomo would get the legislature to pass a law that newspapers are no longer allowed to write falsehoods, than falsehoods would cease to exist and we could all trust what we read. Please governor, SAVE US with your almighty laws, because Lord knows you've stripped us of our ability to save ourselves.

'Walked smiling into the police van'? Yeah, sounds like the kid had no idea what was going on. I smell lies and planted evidence. Even in the slim case this Was true, the parents should get charged with neglect for being so stupid as to give their kid access to it in the first place, obviously they failed to store it safely and take the necessary precautions.

Maybe this kid is always on situational alert, just in case the government is out to get him.

Did the kid even know there was a gun in his backpack?

Gun owners need to face prosecution and serous penalties in these situations. They should also be required to carry liability insurance.

@jamie461 Good gun owners have training and a permit. You should be thanking them for protecting you.

@zero That's moronic. Just like you know how to handle your automobile or a kitchen knife, a gun owner is responsible for their actions.
